Call For Volunteer Chapter Scientists - IPCC Working Group III Contribution to the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5)

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is in the process of developing the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5), which is scheduled for completion in September 2014. Working Group III has openings for volunteer chapter scientists. We seek for highly motivated individuals to support author teams with technical aspects of chapter development. This may include fact checking, reference checking, confirming the completeness of responses to reviewer comments, and assisting with figures and tables.

Interview with 3CSEP researchers in Duna TV program on climate change

Two researchers from 3CSEP, Veronika Czakó and Sergio Tirado-Herrero were interviewed as part of Duna TV's "Strangers in the greenhouse" Idegenek az üvegházban) series on climate change. Veronika Czakó talked about the possibilities of climate action at the level of local governments, while Sergio Tirado-Herrero explored issues related to buildings' energy efficiency in the Hungarian context.

The Risks and Opportunities of Energy Efficiency at the Vienna Energy Forum

The Vienna Energy Forum 2011 was held from 21-23 June 2011 at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria. The Forum addressed the theme, “Energy for All – Time for Action.”3CSEP Director, Diana Urge-Vorsatz participated in the round table discussion, 'Role of Energy Efficiency in Productive Uses.' She gave the presentation, The risks of and opportunities for a significant acceleration of energy efficiency.

3CSEP actively engaged in the eceee summer study 2011

The European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy organized the 10th annual eceee summer study. This is a unique bi-annual event that gathers policymakers, researchers, activists and professionals around energy efficiency issues. In its 2011 edition, two papers authored by 3CSEP researchers - "Co-benefits quantified: employment, energy security and fuel poverty implications of the large-scale, deep retrofitting of the Hungarian building stock" and "How far can buildings take us in solving climate change?

Bridging the Gap: 3CSEP director participates in new report

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will prepare a follow up publication to “The Emissions Gap Report.” Publication of the report preceded the climate change talks in Cancun, Mexico in 2010. The first report assessed the collective pledges of countries to keep global temperature below a 2 degree Celsius rise. In the new edition of the report, Professor Diana Urge-Vorsatz will be a co-author on the chapter focused on climate change mitigation options.

Recent 3CSEP Publications and Presentations

3CSEP has been active presenting and publishing research this year. We would like to summarize some of our special projects in this short bulletin. Our most recent presentations and reports are listed below. Enjoy!

Changing Behaviour toolkit launched

As a culmination of the three-year research project "Changing Behaviour", the project consortium has launched MECHanisms, a practical online resource aimed at project managers working in intermediary organisations promoting change in energy behaviour, primarily on the local level. Together with their partners from various European countries, 3CSEP researchers worked on creating a toolkit that aims to provide a systematic approach to designing, implementing and evaluating energy projects.  To produce the MECHanisms, researchers and practitioners from the consortium used an extensiv
